Hotch – Criminal Minds Series Beloved Cast Member
Criminal Minds is a brilliant series! The lead character, Hotch, adds realism and depth. His intelligence and perceptiveness make him excel at work leading the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit. Not only is he able to catch the bad guy, he can navigate the trickiest of personal problems like a skilled surgeon. Sadly, that perceptiveness and willingness to give 110% of himself at work fails to carry over into his personal life. His marriage was a dismal failure. Intelligence and deep love for his family were not enough to compensate for his inability to prioritize family over work. Hotch is able to clearly identify the emotional and behavioral patterns of perpetrators. He can out think them and formulate successful strategies for their capture.
He is able to use minute clues to develop a deep and complete knowledge of the subject he is hunting. In short, he is a modern day super hero. He expands these super criminal catching powers with each episode. At home, instead of being a Super Man, he fails to live up to even the humble mild mannered Clark Kent. Trying to juggle work pressures and home life demands are too difficult. The regular viewer often wonders if his ability to understand others emotions is what restricts him for confronting his own. Despite is profound love of family, he consistently put them on the back burner unable to articulate his intense need to be connected to fellow human beings in a happy, healthy, and safe way. While the demands at home were spelled out as clearly before him as his duties at work, he could not meet the minimum requirements. Sadly, his wife and son have left and what remains is a visibly hollow Hotch. Each new bad guy captured does little to bolster his deflated view of mankind. In the darkest of moments he still clings to the lifeline of normalcy he found and lost in a family. Middle of the night visits to his sleeping son keep this brilliant criminalist from losing his fragile grip with the happiness and goodness life offers to most others. The day Hotch completely looses contact with his family will be the day that he loses his grip on reality and finally and completely self destructs.

Is Hotch leaving criminal minds?

Like Hotch, I am a workaholic, and my ambition was to become the best Detective NYPD can make me. I chose this career becuase it was meant for me, like Hotch, I worked at it to become one of the only Detectives to have worked in every Elite Detetctive Squad (OCCB, Precinct Detective Squad, Robbery Squad, Major Case Squad, Homicide Squad and Special Victim Squad.(all the Law and Order Shows) Unlike most Detectives they remain in units that they become comfortble in, I take what I learn and move on, using all my investigative skills that I have learned on the way an applying them to the new command. Unlike Hotch, when I got married my wife knew what I was doing, and unlike TV/Movie families, my wife was very supportive becuase of what I did and the many I helped. My wife was proud of what I have accomplished. Unlike TV/Movie stress, THERE WAS NO STRESS DURING MY CAREER becuase this was what I wanted to do. Police Officers who say they were stressed out becuase of what they did use that to pick up dates to make the public feel sorry for them, what a misconception! If you love what you do and become the best of what you do, stress never plays an issue. I have never investigated a serial killer but the many experiences I have encounted during my career as a New York’s finest Detective, made me out to be a much better person. My family is supportive of what I do and did and I wish the TV/Movie industry would stop using that stress crutch as an emotional issue, maybe for some people they became stressed out, maybe becuase the “job” wasn’t cut out for that person’s psyche. Police Officers are there to be stress reliever’s not to be pampered. I remember as a rookie detective, when the Homicide Squad came into my command, I asked an old timer detective, “who are they?” They had a unique pressence (but thats another story as well) he said, “…they are from Homicide! They are the best of the best”(of all detectives) I wanted to emulate them and said one day I will be one the best! I eventually became a homicide detective and realized that they were all prima donna’s and a few were real detetctives, like me! Hotch is good at what he does and I am happy with his character becuase he is steadfast in his virtues in solving the crime and aiding the victims, thats the bottom line. What is not shown on the shown is the greatest reward in catching a criminal and that is gratitude.
